Action Inquiry Question -
Can a technology rich classroom improve academic success compared to a typical classroom environment?
For this next school year, I will be the Technology Facilitator for Quest Early College High School. The next three years, this high school will be going through some changes along with some physical moves. The incoming freshmen for the fall will be the “Early College” part of Quest, and the 10th, 11th and 12th graders will continue to be “Quest High School”. I will not only focus my attention on the incoming ninth graders and implementing technology into their curriculum but my action research will be conducted on the 10th and 11th graders. I will be able to compare previous years assessments with these group as we create a richer technology classroom for their next 2-3 years.
I created an Action Planning spreadsheet using the Tool 7.1 template in Google Docs. The link to access this spreadsheet is located below.http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=tQKujejVs_LWp2xTz0o0B_Q&hl=en&authkey=CLW86egE#gid=0
Hi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteYour action research plan sounds exciting but busy for you in the next year. I know Quest is a project-based school and Web 2.0 tools will lend themselves well to that type of curriculum. Will the curriculum be different with the early-college program vs. the regular high school and does that have any effect on your action research? Hopefully you can teach a few key people and put some professional learning communities in place so you are not overwhelmed your first year :-) (Love the background - didn't see that one or is that a custom one from a picture?)
Sounds like a great idea. I've tried for several years to implement the use of technology into my classroom, but found it difficult for several reasons. Many other social studies teachers were still using traditional paper and pencil activities. When we planned together, technology was not encouraged. If I attempted it on my own, I was seen as a maverick. Also, finding time to create or locate plans that integrated technology into our TEKS was time consuming. I'm certain that any help in these two areas will make teachers more welcoming.
